Clarification of some differences to avoid confusion:
- Araucana (US origin)
- Rumpless, has tufts & yellow skin & soles. Wattles very small, preferably absent. No crest, beard or earmuffs.
- This is the bird currently described in the SASPO standard as the “Araucana Rumpless“. There are no breeders with them in SA.
- Araucana (UK origin)
- Has a tail, beard, crest, earmuffs and white skin & soles. No tufts or wattles.
- This is the bird currently being bred in SA and shown as “Araucana”.
- Backyard breeders refer to this bird as the “British Long-tailed Araucana”.
- Araucana Rumpless (UK origin)
- Rumpless, has tufts, beard earmuffs and white skin & soles. No crest or wattles.
- This is the bird currently being bred in SA and shown as “Araucana Rumpless“.
- Ameraucana (US origin)
- Has a tail, beard, earmuffs and white skin & soles. Wattles very small, preferably absent. No tufts or crest.
