SASPO rings are purely for identification purposes and are not in any way an indication of the quality or purity of ringed poultry.
Only ringed poultry may be entered into SASPO-recognised shows.
SASPO rings may only be ordered through a SASPO-affiliated poultry club.
When ring orders open, all club members will be notified, and orders must be placed before the closing date.
Rings are typically available to order three, and sometimes four, times a year. Each year’s rings only become available after the SASPO National Show, which takes place in the middle of the year, and the final ring order is typically concluded before the end of the year.
It is important to fit a bird with the correct ring size. A bird wearing a ring that is too large will be disqualified at a show, while a ring that is too small may cause discomfort or injury to the bird.
Please refer to the SASPO ring size guide to determine the correct ring size according to the breed and sex of the bird. If you have difficulty identifying the sex of a bird at an age early enough for ringing, one option is to fit both the pullet and cockerel ring sizes. Once the bird’s sex can be identified, the incorrect ring can be carefully cut off.
